Put that File in Several Places…at the Same Time!

February 19, 2013

Where is that file?  I thought I put it here, or maybe it’s here. When I want to find a certain file, I look in the logical place, but it turns out to be in a different folder. I am sure this has happened to you. Did you know you can have it in two places at once? And not just by copying and pasting it into the other folder, because what if you want to make changes? Now that would be a problem.

The solution is simple and not labor intensive at all: Make a shortcut of the file! Then you can put it in several places at the same time. Making a shortcut is really easy to do. Right-click the file, select “Create Shortcut”, then move the shortcut to where you want it (either by cut & paste or drag & drop). You can then rename it if you want.

Now wherever you open the file from, it will be the same version, and if you make changes it will save to one file. No need to fumble around looking for the most current version.
